HVAC Maintenance Plans Salt Lake City | $189/Year

HVAC Maintenance Plans in Salt Lake County

The economic argument for HVAC maintenance plans gets tested every time we run the numbers on a non-plan customer who’s experienced a typical year of HVAC service. Take Aaron M. on Penrose Drive in Federal Heights, whose specific cases we’ve documented across multiple service pages: in 2024, Aaron paid $258 for two separate tune-ups (spring AC + fall furnace), $245 for an outdoor kitchen gas line consultation, $185 for an unanticipated capacitor replacement during the fall tune-up, $345 for a non-emergency Saturday service call on a strange noise, and $483 for an emergency dispatch when the AC condenser fan motor failed during August heat. Total 2024 HVAC spending: $1,516. If Aaron had been on our Comfort Care plan during 2024, the math runs: $189 plan cost, $258 in tune-ups (covered), $185 capacitor (15% discount = $157.25 actual cost), $345 weekend service (would have been covered priority dispatch with $89-$149 in fees waived = $196.50 actual cost), $483 emergency dispatch (would have been $334 with surcharge waived). Total plan-year spending: $876.75. Plan savings: $639.25. Aaron was a non-plan customer in 2024; he signed up for Comfort Care in January 2025. His 2025 spending is on track to be 35-45% lower than 2024 even before factoring in any preventive value from the included tune-ups.

Maintenance plan structure isn’t a unique innovation — most established HVAC contractors offer some version of subscription service. What matters is what’s actually included, what the plan benefits cost the contractor (and therefore what they actually deliver), and how the plan compares to paying for individual services. We offer two plan tiers (Comfort Care and Premium Care) plus commercial light options. Each plan is structured to provide meaningful value at the price point, not just a discount on services you’d already buy. This page covers what’s included in each tier, who they’re appropriate for, and how to think about plan selection. For broader maintenance context see the maintenance services hub.

Comfort Care Plan ($189/year per system)

The standard maintenance plan; covers most residential households’ needs.

What’s Included

Spring AC tune-up (19-point checklist):
Performed March-May before peak cooling demand. Includes refrigerant subcooling/superheat measurement, evaporator coil inspection, condenser coil cleaning, electrical component testing, condensate drain verification, refrigerant level adjustment if needed, blower motor amperage testing, written report with measurements. See the AC tune-up page for complete checklist detail.
Fall furnace tune-up (19-point checklist):
Performed September-November before peak heating demand. Includes combustion analysis with Testo 320, borescope heat exchanger inspection on equipment older than 10 years, manifold pressure verification with altitude derate, ambient and combustion CO measurement, mechanical inspection, controls and safety verification, written report with all measurements. See the furnace tune-up page for complete checklist detail.
Standard filter replacement at each tune-up visit:
One 1-inch pleated MERV 8 filter replacement per visit, two total per year. Filter upgrade to MERV 11 1-inch or MERV 13 4-5 inch media available at filter cost during visits.
Humidifier annual service (if applicable):
Water panel replacement, mineral cleaning, calibration verification. Performed at the fall furnace tune-up alongside the standard scope.
UV-C bulb replacement (if applicable on mercury vapor systems):
Annual bulb replacement included. LED UV-C systems don’t require annual replacement but are included in the inspection scope.
15% discount on parts and labor for any repairs.
Applies during tune-up visits (for any repairs identified) and to any separate service visits during the plan year. Most customers see this discount benefit multiple times per year on routine service items.
Priority dispatch (typically 2-hour response window).
Plan members get scheduling priority over non-plan customers. During peak demand seasons (summer cooling, winter heating), this means significantly faster scheduling.
Waived after-hours emergency dispatch fee ($149 savings per emergency).
The $149 emergency surcharge is waived for plan members. Standard $89 dispatch fee still applies. Net savings per emergency dispatch: $149.
Annual emergency dispatches included (1-3 typical use).
Within reason, plan members can call for emergency dispatch without preauthorization. Excessive emergency dispatches (5+ per year) may be discussed for plan suitability.
Written report after each visit.
Electronic delivery within 24 hours of each tune-up visit. All measurements documented; photos of any findings. Comparison to previous year’s measurements (after second year on plan) showing trend data.
Multi-year transferable plan benefit:
If you sell your home, the remaining plan year transfers to the new owner at no charge (sometimes used as closing-table benefit).

Cost Analysis for Typical Households

For a typical household with one HVAC system and average service needs:

Service Plan Cost Non-Plan Cost Savings
Spring AC tune-up Included $129 $129
Fall furnace tune-up Included $129 $129
Filter replacements (2 visits) Included $30-$50 $30-$50
One typical repair ($300 average) $255 (15% off) $300 $45
Plan annual fee $189 ($189)
Net savings (typical year) $144-$164

Add even one emergency dispatch in the plan year and savings increase by $149 (waived surcharge alone). Households with multiple repairs or emergency dispatches see proportionally larger savings.

Premium Care Plan ($295/year per system)

Enhanced plan tier for households with specific high-priority needs.

What’s Included (Comfort Care plus additions)

All Comfort Care benefits PLUS:
20% discount on parts and labor (vs. 15% on Comfort Care).
Additional 5 percentage points off repairs. Adds up over the year for households with multiple service events.
Free service calls for first 4 dispatches per year.
The $89 dispatch fee is waived for the first 4 visits during the plan year. Beyond 4 visits, standard plan dispatch pricing applies. Useful for households with aging equipment or specific maintenance concerns.
Free filter upgrade to MERV 11 1-inch or MERV 13 4-5 inch deep media.
Filter cost included rather than billed separately. For MERV 13 4-inch media installation, this is meaningful ($85-$165 in filter cost per year).
Annual duct cleaning every 5 years (NADCA-standard).
Full NADCA-standard duct cleaning service every 5 years on plan, valued at $385-$840 per cleaning. Spreads the major IAQ maintenance over the plan term.
Annual humidifier/dehumidifier deep clean.
Beyond standard water panel replacement: full chemical cleaning of evaporator humidifier surfaces, biological assessment of all moisture-contact surfaces, comprehensive mineral removal. Valued at $145-$285 per year.
Annual IAQ measurement.
PM2.5 measurement at multiple locations, particle count, formaldehyde screening. Provides quantitative annual data on indoor air quality. Useful for households with respiratory sensitivities or specific allergen concerns.
Priority dispatch with 1-hour response window (vs. 2-hour on Comfort Care).
Faster response time guarantee during peak demand seasons.
Annual equipment age and life expectancy report.
Each year on plan, written report of equipment age, estimated remaining service life, expected upcoming maintenance needs, suggested replacement planning timeline. Useful for households planning major equipment replacement.

Who Should Choose Premium Care

  • Households with significant respiratory sensitivities — asthma, severe allergies, immunocompromised members. The IAQ measurement and high-MERV filter upgrade alone justify the premium cost.
  • Equipment 10+ years old where service intensity increases. More repairs likely; higher discount and free dispatch fees pay back faster.
  • High-end systems with extended warranty coverage. Documented service maintains warranty validity; the annual report provides warranty support documentation.
  • Properties valued $750k+ where additional service investment is proportional to the property’s HVAC infrastructure investment.
  • Households planning equipment replacement within 3-5 years. The annual equipment age report helps plan the replacement timing and budget.

Multi-System Plan Pricing

Many homes have multiple HVAC systems — separate upstairs/downstairs equipment in larger homes, primary residence plus ADU, residential plus light commercial on multi-unit properties. Plan pricing scales:

Comfort Care additional systems:
$89/year per additional system. First system: $189. Second system: $278 total. Third system: $367 total.
Premium Care additional systems:
$145/year per additional system. First system: $295. Second system: $440 total. Third system: $585 total.
Common multi-system configurations:
  • Larger home with separate upstairs/downstairs HVAC (typical 1900-1950 retrofit, 1990s+ McMansion construction)
  • Main residence + ADU/casita/mother-in-law apartment
  • Main residence + detached garage shop heater
  • Residential property with rental unit (separate equipment serving each unit)
  • Hybrid system (forced air + boiler hydronic on different zones)
Mixed-system arrangements:
Single home with mixed equipment (e.g. furnace + ductless mini-split in addition; AC + boiler radiant floor): each equipment system priced individually. Heat pump systems count as one system regardless of zones.

Commercial Light Maintenance Plans

Custom pricing for commercial properties. Scaled to equipment inventory, runtime expectations, and service requirements.

Typical commercial maintenance plan structure:
  • Quarterly visits (4 per year) vs. semi-annual for residential
  • Expanded scope per visit including refrigerant charge audit, performance benchmarking, comparative data analysis
  • Dedicated technician assignment when feasible
  • 2-hour or 4-hour response time guarantee depending on equipment criticality
  • Free filter delivery on specified schedule
  • Annual equipment performance report with year-over-year comparison
  • 15-20% repair discount depending on plan tier
Typical commercial plan pricing:
$480-$1,400/year per location depending on equipment count and complexity. Quoted individually after site visit. Common applications: small office buildings, light commercial retail, restaurants, multi-unit residential properties.
Larger commercial:
Plans scale to $2,400-$8,400/year for larger commercial properties with multiple rooftop units, comprehensive HVAC equipment inventory, or critical-uptime applications.

Plan Enrollment Process

  1. Initial enrollment. Sign up online, by phone, or at the conclusion of any tune-up visit. Initial visit can serve as the first scheduled service if equipment hasn’t recently been serviced.
  2. Equipment inventory. We document HVAC equipment on the property (brand, model, serial number, age, condition). This baseline supports plan service and any future warranty considerations.
  3. Service scheduling. First tune-up scheduled within 4-8 weeks of enrollment. Subsequent visits scheduled approximately 6 months apart on the seasonal pattern.
  4. Annual auto-renewal. Plan renews automatically on the anniversary date. Email notification sent 30 days before renewal showing upcoming visits and plan benefits. Cancel anytime; no auto-bill if you cancel before renewal.
  5. Plan transfer (if you sell your home): Remaining plan benefits transfer to new owner at no charge. Common closing-table benefit. We coordinate with new owner for transition.

Plan vs. Pay-As-You-Go Comparison

When pay-as-you-go is appropriate:
  • Equipment is new (less than 5 years) and unlikely to need repairs in the next 1-2 years
  • You handle filter changes and basic maintenance yourself, comfortable scheduling occasional professional visits
  • You prefer to pay for services as needed rather than annual subscription
  • Your budget timing favors single-visit payments over annual fees
When plans pay for themselves:
  • Equipment is 5+ years old (annual professional maintenance increasingly valuable)
  • Equipment is approaching end of warranty period (documented maintenance preserves warranty)
  • Household experiences any HVAC service in the year (15% discount adds up)
  • Emergency dispatches occur (waived surcharge alone covers plan cost)
  • Multiple systems requiring maintenance
  • Time/effort cost of scheduling individual visits is meaningful
Real customer scenarios:
  • Aaron M. (Federal Heights): Non-plan in 2024 spent $1,516; on Comfort Care plan for 2025 with same service pattern would spend $876 = $640 savings. Signed up January 2025.
  • Caroline B. (Yalecrest): Premium Care plan since 2024 (heat pump conversion + IAQ upgrades created complex equipment ecosystem). Single annual emergency dispatch on the cold-climate heat pump system = $300 in waived surcharges. Plus annual IAQ measurement provides ongoing comfort.
  • Margaret R. (Yalecrest): Comfort Care since 2018. Older equipment (1908 1st Avenue duplex boiler at 16 years; 1924 Avenues B Street furnace at 22 years) means 4-6 plan visits per year typical. Plan savings $400-$700/year on repair discounts alone.

Plan Cancellation and Modification

Cancellation:
Cancel anytime by phone or email. No cancellation fees. Already-completed services in the current plan year are honored. No refund on the prorated portion (the plan benefit was already utilized).
Upgrade or downgrade between plans:
Mid-year plan changes are prorated based on remaining plan year. Upgrade from Comfort Care to Premium: prorated upgrade fee based on remaining months. Downgrade from Premium to Comfort Care: refund of difference prorated for remaining months.
Plan suspension during extended vacancy:
If you’ll be away from the property for an extended period (60+ days), plan service can be suspended. We can resume on your return. No additional cost.
Equipment replacement during plan term:
If you replace HVAC equipment during the plan year (full furnace replacement, AC replacement, heat pump conversion), the plan transfers to the new equipment. Equipment age in the plan record updates accordingly.
Adding equipment to existing plan:
Adding a new system mid-plan-year: prorated additional system fee for remaining months. Common scenario: customer adds a heat pump to an existing AC + furnace plan; new equipment becomes part of the plan.

Common Questions

What happens if I don’t use any of the plan benefits?
The plan benefits include 2 tune-ups regardless of repair history. You’d use the 2 tune-ups during a normal year even if no repairs were needed. If you missed the tune-ups, you essentially paid for service you didn’t receive — but we send reminders to schedule, and most members do attend their visits.
Can I get the plan but only use 1 of the 2 tune-ups?
If you prefer, yes. The plan price doesn’t reduce for using only 1 visit, but the priority dispatch, discount, and waived emergency surcharge benefits still apply throughout the plan year.
What if I’m a longtime customer who pays as we go?
You’re welcome to continue. Many longtime customers prefer pay-as-you-go because they trust our service and don’t want subscription billing. The plan offers benefits primarily through cost savings; if you’re not in the “average customer” service pattern, the plan may not be cost-effective for you.
Will I get pressured to sign up for the plan?
No. The plan is offered when relevant (during initial visits, after major service work, when discussing emergency dispatches). We don’t pressure customers; the plan benefits speak for themselves over time. Customers who don’t want the plan are equally welcomed as plan members.
Are plan benefits transferable if I move?
Plan benefits stay with the property (transferable to new owner for the remainder of plan year). Plan benefits are not transferable to a new property the original owner moves to. New address would require new plan setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Comfort Care plan cost?
$189/year for the first HVAC system. $89/year for each additional system. Most single-family residential homes have one system.
What’s the difference between Comfort Care and Premium Care?
Premium Care adds: 5% higher repair discount, 4 free dispatches per year, filter upgrades included, duct cleaning every 5 years, annual humidifier/dehumidifier deep clean, annual IAQ measurement, 1-hour priority dispatch, annual equipment age report.
Can I cancel the plan anytime?
Yes. No cancellation fees. Cancel by phone or email. The plan year ends at cancellation; no auto-bill at next anniversary.
Do plans cover equipment replacement?
No. Plans cover maintenance and reduced-cost repair. Major equipment replacement (furnace, AC, boiler, heat pump) is priced separately. Plan members get our standard new-equipment pricing without any additional discount.
How long until the plan starts paying for itself?
For typical households, immediately — the 2 included tune-ups ($258 value) plus filter ($35-$50) cost more than the $189 plan fee. Net savings start on enrollment.
